Blue Ridge Parkway, milepost 241: Doughton Park. Previously known as the Bluffs, the park was renamed after a state congressman, Robert L. Doughton, who was a long-time advocate of the Blue Ridge Parkway. Due to budget cuts in 2013, the parkway was forced to reduce its operating expenses, which resulted in the closing of Doughton Park. On Friday, June 23, 2017, the park was officially reopened. Pictured below are community officials and supporters of the parkway who gathered at the reopening ceremony on Friday morning.
